Evidence and hypotheses for the library of Cornelio Desimoni
The important personal library gathered by Cornelio Desimoni in his long life as a scholar of wide interests was divided by himself into three blocks, for the Public Library of Gavi (his native town), the State Archives of Genoa, which he directed for many years, and the Società Ligure di Storia Patria. The complete reconstruction of the three collections, especially that of Gavi, presents several difficulties, but it provides insight into the cultural background and the method of work of the historian and highlights the breadth and intensity of its relations with scholars around the world and from different subject fields

The today’s Archives of State of Genoa were established in1817 gathering together under a unique administration the previous governmental archives and the notarial archives; until a few years ago it has been located in the former criminal jail of the town. In 1856 the archives of the Bank of Saint were aggregated to the two preceding ones and in 1880 were physically shifted from the old seat of the bank into the State archives. The cataloguing of the Saint George archives was entrusted to Desimoni and up to his death (1899) a sketched catalogue was realized for the 80% of them, although with several inexcusable exclusions

From the sources to the “long and patient meditations”. The numismatics studies and the researches on the genovese coinage of Cornelio Desimoni
The paper focuses on the research activity of Desimoni in the numismatic field through a re-reading of its publications and handwritten notes. It thus becomes clear that for him numismatics was not just an antiquarian passion, but it was tied to an historical interest. This fact, and the confidence in the data of written sources, reflects the positivist culture of Italian historiography of his times. Also typical of the periodo was the neo-patriotic Municipalism that emerges in his numismatic studies, focusing on the coinage of Genoa and of the Genoese in the Mediterranean, as paradigms of the European monetary history
Keywords: coinage devaluation, genovese coinage, historical sources, municipalism and local history, numismatics

The History of Ligurian Music
With the foundation of the Società Ligure di Storia Patria (1857), the region of Liguria – as in other Italian regions – established its official institution in order to organize research and historical studies. In this framework, the first research in Ligurian music history was undertaken by Cornelio Desimoni (1813-1899) who presented his results in a series of lectures in the Fine Arts Department of the same Society in 1865 and 1872. The work of Desimoni was continued and elaborated by Pier Costantino Remondini (1829-1893) in his ‘tornate musicali’, that is, concert-conferences, organized by the Archaelogical Department of the Society in 1875-76. These initiatives put the region of Liguria in the forefront in music historiography in the second half of the 19th century, and their promoters rightly deserve to be included amongst the pioneers of Italian musicology. The article includes the complete transcription of the private letters between Desimoni and Remondini from 1872 to 1894
Keywords: Music historiography, Music history, Musicology
