Genoa, two XIVth-Century Miniatures: one at the Bargello National Museum and another at the London British Library
A miniature available at the British Library in London and a second one that can be seen at the Bargello National Museum in Florence, with a portrait of the city, show the improvements brought to Genoa’s Cathedral. These two XIVth-century miniatures belonged to the manuscript of the Genoese Cocarelli family. There is no interpretative doubt concerning the miniature showing the front of the Cathedral, but problems remain with the second image that in the past was identified as a portrait of St. John d’Acre. But this attribution should be excluded and we should clearly identify the miniature as Genoa’s, according to some reliable facts and some clear hypotheses.

The Savonese and the Rise of Spain in the Late Middle Ages. Men, Ships, and Commodities of Trade
This paper concerns the relationships entertained by Savonese (acting inside the Genoese organization) with the different political powers which formed present-day Spain. As these powers gradually changed, also markets and trade strategies did the same. Finally, at the opening of XVIth century, this resulted in a true migration of Savonese merchants and craftsmen, attracted by new and growing economic opportunities.

The Relationship between the Jesuits and the temporal Power and the Church in Genoa
The first point of contact between Genoa and Jesuits was in 1552 even if only in 1623 the order of Saint Ignatius found a College in via Balbi. This period was characterised by a difficult relationship between the Jesuits, the other religious orders and the Republic of Genoa. The Order’s way of thinking, their point of view about usury, the relationship with the Pope and the Spanish aristocracy have been the main subjects of criticism.

The Sanctuary of Nostra Signora del Soccorso in Pietra Ligure. Art and marian Devotion in Ligurian Riviera di Ponente
The analysis of the Book of the accounts of the sanctuary of Nostra Signora del Soccorso in Pietra Ligure has allowed us to study the artistic heritage of the church, founded in 1598 for the veneration of a miraculous image of the Virgin and Child. The altarpiece of the painter Bernardo Castello (1614), the high altar in polychrome marble (1664-1668), the two marble doors carved by Daniello Solaro (1685-1689) and the two side altars made in the XVIIIth century by Peter and Charles Antonio Ripa, are documented in the account book. In 1606 Giovanni Andrea II Doria began the construction of the convent next to the church, to house the Franciscans, who still run the sanctuary.
